1. How did you get started in design / art?

When I was in 4th or 5th grade we did a linoleum cut project in art class (Remember art class? They don't have those anymore) and I did a rabbit for mine. My teacher really liked it. I remember thinking right then, "I like this art thing." It didn't hurt that my father was a painter and sometime graphic artist.

2. Favorite Shirt graphic of all time?

My friend O (Otis Bartholomeu), who used to do Ten Foot Boneless zine way back in the day, once did a tee that just said Fucking Fuck on it. That must have been about 1989. Classic. I also like the Minutemen tee that's brown and just says "ECONO" on the front in Helvetica. Oh, one more; Christian Roth (Mobernist out of Germany) did a tee that simply said "The Revolution Will Be Merchandized." Love that one. I lean towards the simple stuff.

3. What inspires you?

A lot of the time it's music. There's nothing like a good record… old or new, doesn't matter as long as it strikes a chord, so to speak. I'm a huge Tom Waits fan. I used to make a lot of compilation tapes way back when.

4. Is there a design out there that you wish you did?

The Spitfire Flamehead logo is awesome. The Vans classic hi-top. There are a lot of custom cafe bikes that I wish I would have designed. My dad was a motorcycle and car head and I've always wished I'd gotten into it as deeply as he did.

5. What's left on your design bucket list?

I'd love to customize a badass cafe-style motorcycle.. like for Triumph or Ducati.
