Flickr Gold Club (in the streets)

I recently started a Flickr Pool to act as an archive that feeds directly into the side navigation of my site. Stickers are put up and then come down so fast that if you don't pay attention, they are gone forever, never to be seen again. Since I give away stickers with each shop order, I'm curious to see where they end up. This flickr Group is a place where people can add to it, and hopefully it grows into a great archive. I appreciate your help to make it happen. All the best!

Custom Packing Tape

bennygold_tape2.jpg
I stepped up my shipping game. All online orders now are packed with custom packing tape! The design is meant to resemble caution tape. I have a lot more planned for my online store including online exclusives (the last one sold out in 2 days) and free items included with every order.

Dearly Departed Logo

Here is a logo I recently worked on for a new clothing brand Dearly Departed. They wanted something that was a little darker then what is currently available in the market. I based the logo on the idea of remembrance. Candles are a common symbol of remembering and honoring our lost ones. I took this idea to create custom lettering based on the smoke from a memorial candle with a gothic feeling to it. The D Candle Icon is strong enough to stand on it's own. They have started producing logo based shirts and a few other items. Be on the look out for them soon.

Final packaging samples arrived for the Glider Plane candles. I have been working on getting these candles right from the packaging to the candle molds for awhile now. It's nice to see it all start coming together. The candles are going to be packaged like standard balsa wood gliders that you buy at any toy shop.

Here are a few shirts I worked on for Carhartt Europe. The detail picture of the "always on the grind" tee is the opener for the tshirt section in their catalog. I love what the Carhartt brand is overseas. Too bad it's not the same in the states. It was an honor to work with them and I am looking forward to these shirts being released.

Hand Painted Glider Gift

bg_fiction.jpg
Right before I left for my trip I received one of the nicest packages in the mail. Here and there I randomly get kicked down shirts or stickers, but nothing like this. Brez from Fictional Reality took the time to hand paint my Glider Plane and included the painting with a few of his shirts. I am always thankful for anyone taking the time to send me anything be it an email or a free shirt.

Korea Visit

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

I spent the last week visiting Seoul, Korea. The trip was awesome and I got a little work done, but mostly just checked it out.

My wife and I exploring the streets and Palace

Fake Huf product spotted in the shopping district next to some bootleg designer socks. I picked up a few pairs of the Gucci ones – HA.

bennygold_korea2.jpg
The food was so good. This was a Buddhist temple vegetarian meal. We got a bit drunk on makali (rice wine).

bennygold_korea13.jpg
Wherever I travel the food in the streets is always so good. How come we just got hotdogs and pretzels in the states?

bennygold_korea8.jpg
This was the only real napkin we had in Korea. Most of the restaurants had tissue paper at the table. What's up with that? Hard to clean up when the napkin disintegrates.

bennygold_korea3.jpg
We hooked up with our Korean distrobuter. He took care of us. Showed us around Apgujeong, where his store is, and how excited everyone is for the line. It was really a humbling experience.

bennygold_korea6.jpg
The distrobuter even hooked up an interview for some Korean publications. They didn't speak english so I had to write my answers down for them to translate later. I hope they can read my handwriting.

What's a trip without sneaking some skateboarding and bike riding in? I borrowed a Fixed gear bike, from a friend, and cruised along the Han River. In the mornings I would venture out looking for skate spots before everyone woke up. I came across this park. The ground was too soft but still fun to skate in a foreign country.

If you haven't heard about or are on twitter yet you might be missing out on sneak peaks and production samples that are coming out. It's really easy to post quick pics of things that you are working on throughout the day without updating you site. This preview was leaked last week on twitter and I figured that I should show it here for everyone that might have missed it. Rebel8 did an amazing job on flipping my glider plane with familiar sayings I use in my line! To keep up with my daily doings and sneak peaks, before they make it to my site, you can follow me on twitter here.

Mash Logo Tattoo

Tuesday, June 02, 2009

mash_tat.jpg

Some days I wake up thinking of all the work that needs to be done. It gets overwhelming and emails like the one I got from Rich Thornton reminds me why we do things. Rich sent in his tattoo of the logo I created for Mash. He wrote: "Thanks for getting me out there and challenging myself each day – this tattoo is to remind me to keep pushing. Thanks to benny for such an amazing design also." You can check out more of the mash project here and don't forget about the collab Gold Sprints shirt in the shop. Thank you for the email Rich it inspired me to keep pushing today.
